Italian Navy gets $7.8 billion to acquire 10 new ships by Defence IQ Press

The Italian Navy has plans to build 10 new ships over the next decade with an investment of €5.8 billion ($7.8 billion) out of the national budget, Navy chief Adm. Giuseppe De Giorgi told Defense News in an interview.
De Giorgi expects the funds will cover the acquisition of eight multipurpose ships, one amphibious ship and one logistics vessel. He is hoping to have the first multipurpose ship in service within five years, although the design of the vessels is still evolving and no contractor has been awarded the contract at the time of writing. Fincantieri are thought to be front-runners for the work.
