Venezuela to Charge Ship Captain – WSJ.com

CARACAS—Venezuela will formally charge the captain of an oil-exploration ship contracted by the government of neighboring Guyana and U.S. firm Anadarko Petroleum Corp. APC -0.14% for allegedly performing a seismic study in its territory.

Guyana says the ship was in its own territory, and declined to comment on the charges.

Both countries claim ownership of the resource-rich region in a conflict going back to the 19th century. Venezuelan authorities ordered the Panamanian-flagged vessel, named Teknik Perdana, halt its operations and directed it to a naval port on the island of Margarita over the weekend.
