UK ‘barely’ meeting Nato obligations, claims US senator – Defence Management

Britain’s continued ability to lead Nato missions and maintain “full-spectrum capability” after a series of defence cuts is of “critical concern”, the next US ambassador to London has warned.

He was speaking to US senators in the aftermath of major cuts to the British armed forces, which include a reduction of 20,000 soldiers in the regular army.

Matthew Barzun reportedly told a committee on foreign relations that the US and the UK relied on each other and that “the world counts on our alliance”.
